As the eastern wind blows hard with the spring tide surging, it’s time for a thousand sails to compete. Wang Zhonglin, the Secretary of CPC Hubei Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Hubei Provincial People’s Congress, conducted research on major projects in Wuhan on February 7 morning. In the first leg, he led a team to visit the YASC Wuhan Base front line, and carried out research on the project construction progress and third-generation semiconductor industry development. He emphasized the need to boost investment and development with a sense of urgency making the most of every minute and strive hard for “an auspicious start with a good note” in the first quarter.

 

Silicon carbide (SiC) is a typical representative third-generation semiconductor material with various material advantages such as high temperature tolerance, high voltage tolerance, increased frequency and low loss. SiC power devices are widely used across a variety of sectors including new energy vehicle (NEV), wind-solar-storage, smart grid, data center and rail transit, and become the “next-generation power semiconductors” leading the way forward in the new energy field.

On the research site, Wang Zhonglin strode into the YASC Wuhan Base command, and inspected the project construction progress and product demonstrations. He had cordial exchanges with Zhuang Dan, Executive Director and President of YOFC and Chairman of YASC, and Chen Zhongguo, President of YASC, and learned in detail about the SiC industry overview, market outlook and application scenarios. Wang Zhonglin inquired the company if there are any difficulties or problems, and asked relevant departments and local governments to further increase services and support ensuring that the project is completed and achieves the desired result as soon as possible. He stressed that we should bear in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping’s expectations, focus on key fields like semiconductor and integrated circuit (IC), optical communications, new display and smart device, double down on making breakthroughs in the provincial optoelectronic information industry, and continuously consolidate and enhance the “differentiated” lead of Hubei.

Zhuang Dan extended a warm welcome to the team led by Wang Zhonglin, expressed sincere appreciation to the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee and Hubei Provincial Government for their longstanding support and assistance to YASC, and elaborated on YASC’s development history, production and operation, especially the latest update on the Wuhan Base project.

YASC Wuhan Base is the first project in Wuhan New Town, with total investment of over CNY20 billion, he noted. YASC Wuhan Base has set new speeds for ultra-large project construction with CNY10B+ investments since its official groundbreaking on September 1, 2023. Nowadays, it has entered the phase of equipment installation and debugging, and is expected to power-on for mass production in May 2025. Looking ahead, YASC will more actively integrate into the development in Hubei, move faster to advance the Wuhan Base project, and contribute more to accelerating the building of Hubei into a globally influential hub of scientific and technological innovation.
