Hubei News Host: Projects are a powerful engine for high-quality development. The province is now stepping on the accelerator pedal in key projects, and striving hard for an auspicious start with a good note in the first quarter.

Reporter Du Ruixue: The electric control system is called the heart of new energy vehicles (NEVs), but imports of silicon carbide (SiC) chips are basically relied on in the space. YASC Wuhan Base is now ramping up construction, and is set to have an annual manufacturing capacity of 360,000 SiC chips in the future, which will greatly ease the demand for high-end chips on new energy vehicles in China.

Voiceover: The YASC Wuhan Base project, with a total investment of over CNY20 billion and a floor area of 23 hectares (344 mu), will bring together more than 1,000 SiC semiconductor professionals worldwide, and set up a new integrated hub with the largest SiC production capacity in China. The semiconductor manufacturing base has risen in less than ten months since its groundbreaking in September 2023, setting new speeds for ultra-large project construction with CNY10B+ investments. The project team is now working according to the schedule, in sprint for power-on mass production in May this year and full operation at the end of next year.

YASC President Chen Zhongguo: The provincial, municipal and district governments have provided strong support for this project. We have been building the facility, while preparing access to water supply, electricity and roads and leveling the land. During the Spring Festival, four to five hundreds of workers didn’t stop even for one day. We have beaten the clock to build Wuhan into a national hub of silicon carbide semiconductors.
