YASC and Huairou Laboratory successfully held a signing ceremony of intent on cooperation and industrial application of scientific and technological achievements in silicon carbide (SiC) projects in Beijing on July 31. In the future, the parties will jointly promote advanced technology research and development in SiC power devices and the industrial application of achievements, accelerate the green and low-carbon energy transition, and contribute to sustainable development. Chen Zhongguo, President of YASC, and Jin Rui, Director, Semiconductor Research Institute, Power Smart Energy Research Center, Huairou Laboratory, completed the agreement signing on behalf of the parties respectively.

Huairou Laboratory, an important component of China’s strength in strategic science and technology, leverages the strengths of the new system for mobilizing resources nationwide, and focuses on strategic, fundamental and forward-looking scientific and technological innovation in the energy field. YASC, one of the earliest integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) engaged in SiC power semiconductor product R&D and manufacturing in China, now has the complete capabilities in the industrial chain from epitaxial growth, device design and wafer fabrication to module assembly and test, can provide 650V-3300V SiC SBD and SiC MOSFET products, and ranks among the top in China in terms of capacity in production and under construction.

With the performance advantages of high temperature tolerance, high voltage tolerance and low energy consumption, SiC is playing an essential role in the modern industry sector, especially in new energy and high-voltage industry fields such as wind power, photovoltaics, rail transit and power grid. Compared with traditional devices, SiC can deliver higher efficiency with lower loss, and further reduce energy waste.

Looking ahead, YASC and Huairou Laboratory will follow the principle of “complementary strengths, resource sharing and common development”, focus on national clean and low-carbon energy system building and the strategic goal of “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality”, jointly explore and promote SiC power device R&D and the industrial application of achievements in various fields such as wind power, photovoltaics, energy storage, power grid and rail transportation, and drive the green, low-carbon transition and high-quality development of energy.
