Li Yuanzhi, Party Leadership Group Secretary and Director of Anhui Earthquake Agency, made an inspection tour at YASC Wuhu Base on May 12, and deeply learned about the implementation and operation of earthquake safety protection service system, jointly developed by the parties, at YASC. The customized “earthquake early warning + building structure health diagnosis” system, first deployed in Wuhu City, Anhui Province, can help the company shift its emergency management from “passive response to vibrations” to “proactive precision guarantee”, and make quick, science-based and efficient response to emergencies such as earthquakes.

In the semiconductor industry known for precision manufacturing, even a slight vibration is enough to prompt a storm in the industry. High-precision production equipment including lithography and exposure machines, and complex production processes, place extremely high requirements for earthquake safety management. However, due to environment and resource constraints, YASC Wuhu Base did not deploy vibration monitoring and earthquake early warning systems in the initial construction phase, had no means of monitoring vibration information such as earthquakes, could only make decisions through traditional manual calibration methods, and found it difficult to meet the company’s demand in timeliness.
As such, YASC tried to find improvement solutions over the past two years, and was successfully selected as one of the first earthquake early warning pilot projects in Anhui Province in 2025. The next-generation earthquake safety protection service system, jointly developed by YASC and Anhui Earthquake Agency, went live on December 18, 2025, after the deployment was completed. It features four core functions including precision monitoring, intelligent diagnosis, rapid assessment and closed-loop protection. The system was battle-tested during a 5.8-magnitude earthquake in Taitung, Taiwan just six days after the launch, delivered earning warning and intensity reports in seconds, and provided decision support for the company’s response.
At the research site on May 12, Li Yuanzhi gained an in-depth understanding of the implementation and operation of the system at YASC. The earthquake early warning and building structure assessment system, first deployed in Wuhu City, Anhui Province, safeguards the company with powerful early warning functions, he said. Li Yuanzhi emphasized that the deployment stands a new fine example for cooperation between government and enterprises, and the agency will continue to open up more new technologies in earthquake early warning to YASC in the future. At the same time, he also encouraged YASC to set a benchmark in the industry on the path of third-generation semiconductors.
Sun Jiehua, General Manager of YASC Wuhu Fab, extended a warm welcome to the research team. He noted that the next-generation earthquake safety protection system, developed as a result of collaboration between the parties, will provide YASC with invaluable time for decision making before a disaster strikes and significantly mitigate economic losses. Sun Jiehua again expressed his sincere thanks to Anhui Earthquake Agency for support and assistance to YASC.
Leading officials of Anhui Earthquake Agency, Anhui Provincial Department of Emergency Management, Anhui Association for Science and Technology, Anhui Provincial Department of Education, Anhui Federation of Trade Unions, and the Anhui Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) participated in the research project.
