Sheng Yuechun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Wuhan Municipal Committee and Mayor of Wuhan Municipal People’s Government, led a team for research at enterprises on May 29. In the first leg, he conducted an inspection tour at the YASC Wuhan Base, and deeply learned about the company’s cutting-edge third-generation semiconductor technology and Wuhan Base project construction.
Zhuang Dan, Executive Director and President of YOFC and Chairman of YASC, first extended a warm welcome to the research team, and introduced YASC’s development history and production/operation in detail, especially the latest progress on the Wuhan Base project. YASC has been focused on silicon carbine (SiC) power semiconductor product research, development and manufacturing since its inception, he said. Now, in addition to the existing production capacity of 60,000 SiC wafers a year, YASC is also steadily advancing the Wuhan Base project construction with an annual production capacity of 360,000 SiC wafers.
Sheng Yuechun fully affirmed YASC’s innovation achievements and strategic layout in the exchange, and in particular expressed strong support for the first project in Wuhan New Town — the YASC Base project (the third-generation semiconductor power device research, development and production base). He emphasized that there is a need to build high-standard, high-level Wuhan New Town, drive the highly-integrated development of the Wuhan-Ezhou-Huanggang-Huangshi region, and stay at the vanguard of high-quality development.
After that, Sheng Yuechun and his team visited the Wuhan Base project site, and inspected the latest progress on engineering construction. The first building of Wuhan Base was recently topped out in advance, the rest of the main structure goes into a full-blown sprint, factory buildings will be topped out one after another in the next month, and the base is expected to power-on for mass production in July next year.
Sheng Yuechun expressed his anticipation for the Wuhan Base project to power-on for mass production at an early date. He also pointed out, at the critical moment of fighting for “50% of the tasks completed in half a year”, all districts and departments should anchor objectives and tasks, strengthen precise scheduling, really help key industries and enterprises facing difficulties solve development challenges, effectively consolidate and build momentum for economic recovery and growth, and make unremitting efforts for “50% of the tasks completed in half a year”.
Wuhan leaders including Chen Jinchao and Du Haiyang, and Lu Yuqing, Director of Administration Committee of Wuhan East Lake Hi-tech Development Zone, attended relevant activities.
